Penny Mallory battled against all the odds to make her childhood dream come true – to become a champion Rally Driver, She is one of the most successful women Rally Drivers of all time and the first woman in the world to compete in a World Rally Car (the Formula 1 of Rallying). As a motoring expert, she has presented many high-profile TV shows including the hugely successful Channel 4 show ‘Driven’, ‘World Rally Championship’, ‘The Used Car Roadshow’, ‘Accident Blackspots’, Discovery’s ‘Classic Car Club’, and ‘The Road Show’ amongst many others.

We caught up with our action girl Penny, to find out what life is like behind the scenes someone who has lived most her life in the fast lane, often at breakneck speed. We were intrigued to find out more…
Who do you spend time with on your weekends? My partner Richard (he has two grown-up boys) and my two girls and their partners – and spoilt for choice for lovely friends! I have so many wonderful people around me and also around the country!

Where do you call home? The stunning Cotswolds – it’s the most beautiful place in the UK, I think!
Whats the best thing about living where you do? The stunning views, the pubs, restaurants. ‘my’ forest, the walks, cycle rides and the wonderful people. No traffic either! People come here on holiday for goodness sake!
Favourite eating place?LOVE the Japanese restaurant called Pen Yen at Soho Farmhouse (only ten mins away) – the food is amazing
Favourite shop?Daylesford Farm Shop (ten mins away) sells the best produce you can imagine, in the most beautiful environment – google it!
Favourite day out?Country walk, pub lunch with friends, comedy night somewhere
Describe your perfect weekend?Friday Evening – My local village pub on the green with friends and neighbours, a local band playing
Saturday – A run through the forest (on my doorstep), picking some veg from the garden, a bit of gardening, and a meal out with friends
Sunday – A mountain bike ride through the forest, lazy long Sunday lunch (rib of beef if I could choose) with the family.

Favourite landmark?I love the Angel of the North – seen it a few times, and it always makes me gasp. It’s so cool
Where do you like to escape to? Greek Islands, white sandy beach for a proper relax or a backpacking adventure around Thailand or Indonesia

Who inspires you & why?Ordinary people inspire me – the ones who do extraordinary things. The survivors and the fighters, My friend Jamie McDonald is currently running 230 marathons across America – that’s inspiring!
In your day job whats not gone according to plan?Rally driving crashes that occasionally ruined my day!
Your proudest achievement?Becoming the First woman in the World to drive a World Rally car for the official Ford team – it was an impossible dream that I made possible – magic! (Oh and my daughter says I should mention her and her sister, of course)
Tell me about your new book?Its titled World Class Thinking: World Class Behaviour, it launched a couple of-of months ago and had already sold over 500 copies.
I have written it to show people how to adopt a winning mindset to get what you want. It is for everyone interested in upping their game in every aspect of their life. I dispel the myth that elite performers are ‘special’ and that you do possess all the qualities you need to be at the top of your game; you just haven’t discovered them yet. You will learn how to increase your motivation and discover your winning mindset which will improve your confidence. I show you how getting the right attitude and removing self-limiting beliefs is the key to moving forward, we look at improving skill through deliberate practice and set goals and make a plan to reach them. It’s essential to increase your relentless persistence in pursuit of your dream and drive your performance sky high This is my refreshingly straightforward and engaging approach to raising your game. You will learn how top performers think and behave to win.

Describe your average week?In the Spring and Autumn I will speak a couple of days a week (might be UK or abroad) and in between writing a bit, read a bit, cook a bit and garden a bit. Not a bad life eh!
Apart from speaking all over the world, what else keeps you busy? I have just designed and built a house with my partner – something I have always wanted to do, and it’s now finished and fantastic!
